| President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health October 2002 Interim Report "America's citizens with mental illness deserve our respect, and theydeserve excellent care." with these words President George Bush launchedthe PNFCMH, in April 2002. The Commission was charged with identifying remedies to an inadequate systemof care for individuals in need of mental health services. The report outlines the challenges facing our nation's mental health system,declares that recovery from mental illness is possible and that effectivetreatments already exist that allow for consumers to attain recovery. The report also cites some model programs. In the area of employment, thecommission cites the IPS (Individual Placement and Support Model), pioneeredby researchers in New Hampshire.
